Penny was first Director of WATI from 1993-2003.
She retired in June of 2003 and is working as a private consultant
in the field of assistive technology. She has been a teacher, consultant
and administrator in the field of special education for over twenty
years. Much of her teaching experience was in working with children
with physical and multiple disabilities which led to her interest
in assistive technology. Before moving to Wisconsin, Dr. Reed was
Director of the Oregon Technology Access Project, a statewide technical
assistance project in assistive technology funded first by a federal
grant and later by the Oregon Department of Education. Dr. Reed
provides training on a variety of topics related to assistive technology
with a special focus on helping school districts improve their delivery
of assistive technology services. Dr. Reed is co-author of the Educational
Tech Points (Bowser & Reed, 1995, 1998) and Assistive Technology
Pointers for Parents ((Reed & Bowser, 2000), editor of Assessing
Students' Need for Assistive Technology, 3rd Edition (Reed,2000)
and author of the School District Profile of Assistive Technology
Services (Reed, 1997).
